If you’re the owner of an older home, you most likely still have knob and tube or “open” wiring. The system consists of two wires, live and neutral (no ground), with insulator knobs for isolation and ceramic tubes to line holes through wooden studs.
Although it is outdated, this form of wiring is still safe and functional. However, with today’s technological advances and electrical usage it is recommended most homeowners consider renovations to rewire for a grounded electrical system with dedicated circuits.
